LIFESAVERUSA.COM DISASTER RELIEF EFFORTS -
LIFESAVERUSA.COM is working with several international disaster recovery organizations to support disaster relief efforts worldwide
Necessary Paradigm Shift: In a disaster such as the ones playing out today in Myanmar and Western China, even if you can get water into the country, distributing it is often impossible as the infrastructure such as roads and bridges have been swept away. The only way is by small watercraft and aircraft. Because of this the quantities of supplies of water that can be distributed are woefully inadequate. Current estimates put the number of disaster victims at over 1 million people and rising, this method of distribution simply does not work . LIFESAVER bottles can be air dropped or even hand carried to the victims providing up to 4000 liters of water purification per bottle. Unlike delivering cases of bottled water where you have to feed and maintain the supply chain, once you have provided victims with LIFESAVER bottles the individuals are able to purify existing, albeit contaminated, water sources and purify their own water effortlessly. Strained recovery resources can then be focused on rescue, medicine, food, and infrastructure reconstruction etc. How many people have to die before we realize the fact that shipping millions of cases of plastic bottles of water into a disaster ravaged environment is an inefficient, costly and only a marginally successful process that effectively condemns many disaster victims to illness or death. We need to give the people the means of processing their own water quickly, safely and cost effectively.
Perspective: To truly put this into perspective, a standard C-130 transport plane has a maximum payload of 42,000 lbs. If it was to carry water alone, that would equate to 21,000 liters. At 2 liters per person per day it would only be enough for 350 people for 30 days. The same C-130 can hold 36,500 LIFESAVER bottles which, I know it is staggering but, could provide over 2.4 million people with drinking water over the same 30 days. It would only take a half capacity C-130 load of 18,250 Lifesaver Bottles to accommodate water consumption requirements for the 1 million people currently effected in Myanmar.
